My roommate got this for me as an early birthday present. Unfortunately, like so many things adapted from 's writing, loses something in its translations. A related question: I know Marvel did omnibus versions of Deadly Hands of Kung Fu and the Tomb of Dracula magazine stuff. I'm not one who usually bickers about this kind of thing, but there was a distinct cramped quality to many of the middle stories, even those which got serialized. Dark Horse collects the Marvel adaptation of Solomon Kane like the Savage Sword of Conan collections and does a nice job outlining the stories. The latter part of the book reprints stuff from the 90's. Following the action was hard at times, but perhaps that has to do with the reduction of the page for this format. The art tends to be more varied in quality. It's a decent read, it adapts most of the key Kane stories, but the artwork is suspect at times. The characters are expressive, action scenes are done well and the environments are extensively detailed for the most part. Please read our before submitting one. We like to keep things fresh. The artwork shows more variety than I would have expected.

Do they print all the text articles and editorial junk as well, or just the comics? Howards sixteenth-century Puritan adventurer has captured the imaginations of readers for decades. Follow along Kane's restless travels with pistol and rapier as he is compelled to be a weapon of God, ridding the world of evil wherever it may be found - from the jungles of Africa to the high seas, and whether cannibal, demon, vampire, or pirate! I didn't like the Conan vs Solomon Kane crossover mostly ruined by the 90's style art. A fantastic companion volume to Dark Horses best-selling Savage Sword of Conan omnibus series! In fact much to my surprise I learned here that Glut was the primary scribe for Kane's adventures, writing the majority of these stories. It also is economic as many of the tales are reprinted from earlier, now more expensive comics of the 1970s and 80s if you purchased the originals. Most are adaptions of Howard's work, though original influences and other influences in the adaptions are common enough in the work to merit those who have read them to give them a serious look as well. Howard's sixteenth-century Puritan adventurer has captured the imaginations of readers for decades. Very minimal damage to the cover including scuff marks, but no holes or tears.

Roy Thomas is a comic book writer and editor, and Stan Lee's first successor as editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics. These are very eerie, dark, supernatural type stories, even more so than the Conan stories, and to me I actually enjoyed these better than most of the Conan stories. Follow along Kanes restless travels with pistol and rapier as he is compelled to be a weapon of God, ridding the world of evil wherever it may be found from the jungles of Africa to the high seas, and whether cannibal, demon, vampire, or pirate! Now all of the Savage Sword of Conan short stories from the 1970s are collected for the first time: equal parts comics adaptations of Howard's formative tales and inspired new chapters from venerable scribes Roy Thomas Conan the Barbarian and Don Glut Kull the Destroyer! The overall quality of the stories varies greatly and the art for the most part is of inferior quality. The earliest Kane stories with artwork by Alan Weiss are superb. While one is, of course, better served by going to Howard's original stories and works to get the full impact of Solomon Kane, if you are more graphic novel minded, this is not the worst place to pick up his adventures. Wenzel's rendition of Kane in particular is great,square-cut mane-like hair and a dour, gaunt face makes Kane,a badass character with stylish attire. At one point there's a jump from the mid-80's to the the 90's and the change in styles is remarkable. As with any collection that spans multiple years, writers, and artists, this is of varying quality.

Having said that, however, it is actually quite good overall. While most people know Howard more for Conan the Barbarian, I have always had more of an interest in Solomon Kane, his Puritan, overly focused adventurer who both rallies against and sometimes uses instruments of dark magic to do what he feels is just and proper. Solomon Kane is a bizarre character and the attempt to have him cross over with Howard's other creation Conan is interesting. Contains short stories from various Savage Sword of Conan and Conan Saga issues, and from Kull and the Barbarians 2 and 3, Marvel Preview 19, Monsters Unleashed, and Dracula Lives. I was very excited to read it.
